Mission

It is the mission of the Sudbury Community Foundation to enhance the quality of life and sustainability of our community through fund development, grant making, and leadership.

Mandate

The organization's main purposes are to

1) Support the community's charities through an effective grant-making program. To accomplish this, a formal grant application and assessment process has been put into place. A grants committee made up of members of the Foundation's Board of Directors and community volunteers with expertise in grantmaking and knowledge of the community oversee the grant application and assessment process and make grant recommendations to the Foundation's Board of Directors.

2) Build permanent endowment funds for the community. To accomplish this, the Board of Directors, together with the Executive Director and key members of the community, make the community aware of the Foundation's services, educate the community in the importance of philanthropy and community building. They meet with potential donors and their financial advisors to outline the benefits of permanent endowment funds to the community.

3) Provide investment stewardship on behalf of donors. In this capacity, the Investment Committee, made up of key financial specialists from the Board and the community, oversee the work of a professional fund manager and, through quarterly meetings, ensure that the funds are managed in accordance with the established policies of the Foundation and the Public Trustee Act of Ontario.

4) Undertake leadership initiatives. When necessary and appropriate, the Foundation may engage in activities to strengthen and enhance the community. Because of its role as an objective participant, the Foundation may act as a catalyst to bring interest groups together to solve local problems or undertake projects to enhance the community.
