Multi-year Operating Grants Now Available
From Greater Sudbury Charities Fund and
Social Investment Partnership Sudbury (SIPS)*

* Social Investment Partnership Sudbury (SIPS) is a grant partnership between the Sudbury Community Foundation, Bank of Montreal, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Royal Bank of Canada Foundation, and Bank of Nova Scotia. This partnership is based on a model where a network of business and industry partners pool matching cash grants for a promising local charity and also provide in-kind business support, management skills, fund development guidance, and staff volunteers over a two-year period to enhance the organization's effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability. Up to $25,000 (differs due to available funding) and business support is available over two years to qualified charities.

Do You Qualify?

SIPS invites letters of interest from local charities who:

  • have a registered charitable number,
  • wish to undertake organizational capacity building with the help of local business experts,
  • have the full commitment of their board of directors to participate in SIPS, and
  • are committed to working with SIPS partners as volunteer consultants in such areas as self-assessment, strategic and business plan development, developing outcome measurements, human resources, and fund development.

Please send a brief and compelling letter of interest (two pages or less) introducing your organization, outlining your organization's mission, programs, strategic goals, charitable number, and the client numbers your organization serves. The letter is designed to spark interest in your organization, its programs, and why you need SIPS support. Following this, a short list of applicants will be invited to submit a full application. Letters of interest must be received by January 31st , each second year to:

There will not be any SIPS granting in 2012. All applications received by January 31st, 2013 will be considered for the 2013 granting year.

Tips for Applications:

  • SIPS only considers requests from organizations whose mandate serves the general community. As such, religious or political organizations, or similar organizations with a specific constituency are not eligible.
  • Letters of interest are invited. Please limit this to two pages. The purpose of this letter is to spark the interest of SIPS partners in your organization and where it's headed. The letter should include your organization's mission, programs, strategic goals, charitable number, and the client numbers your organization serves.
  • A full proposal will be invited after SIPS reviews your letter and has had an opportunity to meet with you to ensure that this model of engaged philanthropy fits with your organization. The proposal itself will be in the form of a business plan and your organization will have access to a SIPS member who can help guide you in formulating the plan.
  • After the full proposal is received, SIPS members will review each proposal and may request a site visit to your organization.
  • The selected "Investee" and SIPS investment will be announced at a SIPS reception and media event.

SIPS / Investee Relationship

  • Once the Investee is selected and announced, a lead partner from one of the participating banking institutions will be selected to establish a relationship with you
  • A capacity assessment will be completed to identify areas of support needed
  • Outcome-based work plans will be put into place for a two-year project
  • The lead partner will coordinate with other SIPS partners to help engage them with parts of the work needed.
  • A formal annual review will take place at the end of year one to ensure that the project is on track
  • A final review and exit process will take place at the end of year two
